Best Assetto Corsa Rally Settings for Thrustmaster T248

Updated for version 0.3.

Assetto Corsa Rally is a new rally simulator that just released in Early Access. It currently has limited content, but I'm very excited for the eventual full release. The physics and force feedback are already excellent, so there is an incredible foundation to build out the full game.

The Thrustmaster T248 works great with it. Version 0.3 has added a Soft Lock feature, which was my only complaint before. Now the whole experience has been fantastic.

In this guide, I will show you the settings I use to improve the force feedback and what you may want to adjust for your own setup.

Thrustmaster Settings

Assetto Corsa Rally automatically sets the proper steering angle for each car in the game, so you should leave the rotation on the wheel set to the maximum.

On-Wheel Setting Value
ROT 900°
FORCE 4
FFB 1

FORCE at 4 bars with FFB at 1 creates a perfectly linear force feedback response with no clipping, which is the ideal for any racing game.

TM Control Panel Setting Value
Rotation 900°
Overall Strength of all forces 65%
Constant 100%
Periodic 100%
Spring 100%
Damper 100%
BOOST Off
Auto-Center by the game

Rotation and Overall Strength are identical to the ROT and FORCE wheel settings, respectively. Changing it in one place overwrites the other. I recommend changing these on the wheel and ignoring the values in the Thrustmaster Control Panel.

Spring is not used by Assetto Corsa Rally.

Damper is used for the in-game Damper setting.

BOOST should always be turned off. For an in-depth look as to why, see my BOOST Force Feedback Analysis.

Assetto Corsa Rally Settings

In Settings > Inputs > Input Bindings:

Setting Value
Active Controller Device Racing Wheel

You will need to manually bind the steering, pedals and any buttons you want to use.

In Settings > Inputs > Force Feedback:

Setting Value
Gain 100
Minimum Force 0
Damper 10
Steering Lock 900
Wheel Soft Lock On

Gain is the overall strength of the force feedback. This should be fairly light, as rally cars don't have heavy steering. Some cars are noticeably lighter than others, though, so feel free to adjust this when necessary.

Minimum Force raises the lightest forces so they can be felt more strongly. In practice, this turns up the road texture vibrations. This is not necessary on these wheels.

Damper adds some weight to the wheel when the car is moving slowly or stopped.

Steering Lock needs to match what you have set on the wheel itself.

Wheel Soft Lock should be On to get accurate steering across all the cars.

Conclusion

Rally is my favorite type of racing game. I've always wondered what a rally game would be like if it was built on the Assetto Corsa physics engine and now we're finally getting that exact thing. I'm very excited to see how this develops.
